Obsolescence of academia?

A few months ago, some bright MIT students wrote SCIgen, a program to automatically generate computer science essays.

It worked well enough that one was accepted to the World Multi-Conference on Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics (say that three times fast). They then went to the conference, and presented the "paper."

Check the website for commentary, source code, and a video of their conference presentation.
