I suppose this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone by now, but the London attacks show once again how much more content is available from the laity in crisis situations.

Between the various Flickr tags (e.g., londonbomblast, londonbomblasts, july7, kingscross) and the exemplary Wikipedia coverage, I believe I've been much better informed by amateur journalists.

It may only work for extreme, visible crises like 7-7, but it's fascinating to think what this might mean for the production of common knowledge.
