RU Sirius is currently hosting a podcast with Cory Doctorow on the political economy of patents and copyright that is very rewarding listening.
I especially recommend the section between 8m 30s and 25m, where Cory speaks directly to such issues in his own livelihood, the history of political economy, and visionary fiction.
